Scarred Scientist Pt. 1

Mohandas is a professor in University of Kingphia. His career, devotion to studying for the sake of science has taken away everything from him, including his sanity.

He carpools daily from his home to his lab and back. Gauri and Mohan share cars alternating every week.

12th Josh, 2087. 8:30 hours.

Mohandas got up Gauri's car. He always does so. Front seat is usually occupied by her husband Azad, who most likely hates Mohan. Or maybe I feel like so. He hates him in spite of the fact that Mohan has never caused even an ounce of disruption in his family. Or the fact that Gauri was never his ex-girlfriend.

Yes, Mohandas as contrary as his name sounds is a Casanova in the he real world but lately, he rarely does put his wooing skills in use. He in his life has faced innumerable girls, one among whom was Indu, his most recent ex-girlfriend with whom he wanted his relationship to be strong and with whom he wanted to die.

But destiny had its own ways. Due to reasons unknown to me Mohandas and Indu didn't quite get the future they manifested. And Azad knew this very well. During Mohan and Indu's “honeymoon period” Azad tried several times to make their love life a hell. Well, we could see now he was more or less successful in achieving his goal. But why did he not want Indu to marry Mohan? Yet unknown.

Returning to where we started from. It was Indu's husband's birthday that day. In the car in which sat the couple and Mohan they called up Shree, Indu's husband.

Azad: Good morning, sir, happy birthday!

Shree: (in a hushed, unclear voice) thank you thank you sir, now that you've wished me my day, I'll have to sell off my kidneys in order to serve you a treat for this day!

Azad: No sir we're middle-class people, we could eat peanuts for a party and remain happy throughout! No need to sell kidneys for that!

Shree: that's so good of you my friend, but tell me a thing, why do you sound remorseful?

(Azad was indeed remorseful since he was married to Gauri. 11 years have passed since.)

Azad: "समझदार के लिए इशारा ही काफ़ी होता है"

Gauri (from driver's seat): Yes, his wife is driving him up and down to the same office, he is in true pain right!

Shree: It's good at least someone is having the time of his life. Anyway, guys come to my place tonight and let’s have a small party? What are you guys having?

Gauri: The sandwich made by Indu was real good last day. I'll have those and i want no more!

Azad agrees with a nod.

Shree: Inform Indu once, otherwise no sandwiches will wait for you. Later on, don't tell me I didn't warn you guys!

The phone hangs up. Mohan is all voiceless, hoping they don't call Indu up. In case they do he won't be able to control himself but break down in front of others and create a scene.

But to his disappointment, they phoned Indu and they had a brief conversation and fortunately Mohan had successfully kept himself sane. They agreed on meeting for tea and snacks on occasion of Shree's birthday.

Azad startled everyone by his proposal, "Should Mohan not come with us, on this special day?" Mohan knew this was going somewhere. Somewhere he didn't think would be okay.

Mohan said, "you people carry on, I have my engagements to attend to. Anyway, you guys are invited doesn't necessarily mean I am invited too"

Azad says "although Indu and you are two bodies in this frame of the world, we have always considered you two to be one single soul. Do jism ek Jaan"

Gauri becomes serious at the last line. Maybe contemplating the fact that she could never call Mohan hers and was forced to marry the bastard.

Mohan says "a word to wise is enough? Isn't it Azad?"

Azad in a state of flowing irate looks to the front of the car. Everything falls silent.

After Mohan reaches his laboratory Indu calls him and invites him for the party, which by the way was not-so-surprising, since they still shared a very good bonding.

She even named her baby boy after him, Mohan, let alone the fact that she called him to her marriage which, of course, he didn't attend. Azad wasn't wrong when he said they considered Mohan and Indu Do jism ek Jaan.

Evening. 20:30 hours.

Mohan has readied up for the tea party. He has already wished Shree. Shree seems to accept Mohan as his good friend given that he knows how dearly Mohan loved Indu. Little does he know the feelings are alive, fresh till date.

Mohan parks his bike in the parking area of Shree's house and gets in.

He's in shock.

Corpse of Azad, Gauri, Shree and Jeevika lay cold. Indu was nowhere to be seen. Mohan, Indu's baby boy was petrified, sitting in the distant corner of the room. Seeing an alive person he comes up and hugs Mohandas.

They sat there dumbstruck. Till it was morning.

Till the cops arrived.
